Are You Prepared for a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency such as trauma to teeth or gums could possibly be serious and shouldn’t be ignored. Ignoring dental problems may increase risks of irreversible damage and the need for extensive and costly treatment in the future.

Being prepared for dental emergencies is not something people really think about, but being prepared can make the difference between saving or losing a tooth. In the case of a toothache, if it happened to be a bacterial infection, it could become a life-threatening situation. Now, beyond those super-scary scenarios, knowing what to do on a perfect summer day, strolling down the boardwalk when all of a sudden that peppermint salt water taffy pulls out a filling, or when you inexplicably chip a tooth building your Grandson’s crib can save you a lot of time and worry.

For starters, be sure to have Wiemeyer Dentistry’s number on your home and office phone speed dial, in your cell phone and posted in a convenient and familiar place like your refrigerator along with other emergency numbers. Next, you can familiarize yourself with some simple steps to take for various dental emergencies which we’ve posted on our web site.
